PURSUIT

My mum and I recently had a conversation about why people at the hem of affairs are not satisfied with a leadership position well done. Why do they have to run for more?  What is so important about the top seat that they can't let other people who have not had the chance to take it up and run? Why must it always be their faces we see and the voices we hear? It has become stale and irrelevant because we keep hearing the same thing without any touch of freshness or transformation.

I agreed with her on a questioning and lots of other ideas, but she said something that I couldn't argue neither did I agree. She said, "they are all greedy, and people who have tasted power don't want to stay ashore while people cross Jordan to rule."
I struggled with her ideology. I couldn't say she was wrong because I have no proof yet. I can't agree with her because I know there are exceptional cases. So, I kept it somewhere that in the cause of time, I will have proof and be able to tell her there are exceptions.

But later on, I learnt that the pursuit for power is not wrong in themselves, just like I thought, but the balance of the conversation is - to whose advantage is the power being pursued.

Is it to amass wealth, position, fame, recognition, and a show of I've got it all, which all leads to vanity. Or, are those things gotten to help humanity and glorify God? Is it to promote the kingdom's agenda, or to let people know it is attainable by you?

Brethren, these pursuits are neither good or bad, their usage and who they represent determines their labels. They are things, means to an end - God. If they don't point to Christ, then it's pointless. It is better not to have or pursue them.

But when you are first in God and for Him. And your heart is always set to seek and do the will of the Father. He will supply everything else like He said because He knows you will display Him well as your sponsor.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you -(Matthew 6:33; KJV). The representation of the King and the kingdom must be first all the time.

Shalom!

Lesson In All Things

Learning isn't limited to a gathering of people with a tutor, but an experience that leaves a mark of influence. To learn means to gain knowledge or skill by studying, practicing, being taught or experiencing something. A lesson is a section where something is being taught and learned. It, therefore, means that there must be a teacher and a student. Life is a teacher. It teaches anyone who cares to listen and have wisdom. We are in the habit of running each day the same way and the days turn to weeks, weeks to months and later to years. We forget to pause, pay attention to life and absorb wisdom to live. Some of us have experienced but haven't gotten the lessons out of some. Wisdom is not measured by age or level of exposure or experience, but lessons got from our encounter with life. What did you learn as a child, teenager, adult, parent, businessperson, lawyer, pastor, teacher, etc? Whatever you do isn't as important as what are you learning? What will you pa...

The King Comes

Who is coming? Why is He coming? What is He coming to do? The major reason anyone would stand for anything is because they don't just know, but understand the purpose and mission of that thing.  Sometimes, I find out that I am carried away by activities that don't really matter to the reason why I joined a group or something in the first place. So, what I do to get myself back on track is that: I slow down and ask myself how I got where I am and why I started or made the decision in the first place. And by the grace of God through the help of the Holy Spirit, It works - I find my way back. As Christians, we have been taught so many things and have been involved in so many things(which are very good) that we sometimes lose track of why we are believers in the first place. It is good to serve God and to love others as ourselves, but we must also remember to go back to the cross. Not just to receive grace and strength to do His work, but to also serve as a reminder of t...

SAME GOD

A song in Yoruba (Nigeria) says " the Lord is, as the time of old, but we don't worship God like old times " . This is very true. I always wonder why there was power in the early churches, but now, we hardly see the manifestations like the ones we read about the book of Acts of the Apostles?!    Some times ago I thought that Christianity was a joke passed down to generations. We have little people in the church performing miracles, what are the other members of the church doing? Are we just smiling at situations and circumstances and say God is in control when God has bestowed power to do on us and has made us gods (psalms 82)?    We are supposed to be armies pulling down strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4) of the devil instead the church is held in captivity of the strong. The Great and Mighty God is always present but we don't seek Him for help. Where is the power of the church?! Haven't we lost it?    The fathers of old, the prophets, and t...
