There is an African proverb that says, "the demon you've known for a while is better than the angel you just met". As weird as this sounds, many people consciously or unconsciously act it out. This shows the hardness of people's hearts towards change.
Change is constant, but it can be a very weird process and experience. The Israelites desired to go back to Egypt and continue the life of slavery and pain that they were used to than to be in the wilderness and uncertain of what the promised land looked like.
Yours might not be as dramatic as the Exodus. It could be the Lord telling to you take steps about your finances by saving and sowing. Or leaving the life that is not accurate with the word and plan of God for your life. It could be for you to stop saying to yourself and others, "That's who I am and I can't change."
Our change experiences are different. You know what the Lord is addressing in your life. And it may have raised questions of doubt like if I do this how am I sure it's the Lord? What is so important about stopping this? What will people think about me? How am I going to survive?
But that is the beauty of faith - absolutely trusting in God while being unaware of the things lying ahead of us, believing that He knows best and interested in our lives than ourselves. If you knew how things will turn out, what's the point of faith?
The reason for your fear could be the deeds of the past, the thought of it catching up, ignorance of God's faithfulness and promises, or the uncertainty and expectations of the future. They can be understandable, but they make you petty and pitiable.
That is a dishonoring image of God to portray. You are in His likeness. You are a child of God and a god for that matter. What you dread the most sneaks up on you, causing your fear to become your reality.
Fear causes depression, anxiety, sadness, and anything that makes you look like an outcast. You are way better than that and you have a beautiful life ahead of you. But will you trust in the Lord to take you through it?
If you are stuck in the past and what people have done to you. Understand that even if the Lord didn't lead you to it, He will lead you through it and make it work for your good. You've got to be strong, let the Lord be your anchor.
The question is not what the Lord did or didn't do, but do you trust the Lord enough to make it all work for your good? Do you? How much of God do you know that keeps you secure in His promises? What has He told or shown you about Himself?
His word strengthens your faith, and makes you secure and strong. When doubt comes, that's how you face it, with the word of God. The cure for fear is knowledge — studied or revelational. It's the foundation for your faith.
Pray. It builds up your faith and makes it firm, especially praying in the Holy Ghost. When doubt comes like a flood, prayer raises a wall of defense against it according to the word of the Lord. Praise Him, it reveals your trust level in Him. The Lord has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love, power, and sound mind. Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding.
Shalom!!!
