The Journey of Service

Service by general definition or standard means an act of being of assistance to someone. While that is correct, it will be helpful to believe that serving or service is a journey that leads to your greatness

It starts by understanding the purpose and what it's not. You might not know the end game, but you know there is a responsibility that you carry in your generation. Most of the time, you don't have it figured out, but you know deep inside you.

You might not be able to explain it yet, but you know that you are called and different from the people, environments, stereotypes, status quo, or stagnant mindset.

Nothing physical or tangible can define your purpose because it's an imprint of the DNA of your maker sending a signal to you that your value is not what you have or see now, THERE IS MORE.

In your understanding, you will get to know that God is indeed the author and finisher of your mind because it is so personal, you might not be able to explain it to your parent, family, or friend. They might love the Lord, but there is an urgency in you that calls you up into greatness.

Though you don't know where you are going, you have to accept it by faith and move out like Abraham and go to the land that God will show you. You might not know the destination, but you know so deeply and firmly that there is a journey.

The call is too real to doubt. Your moving out might not necessarily be literally (but could be), it's a call from your spirit that translates to your mind and then start causing a mental shift in you that make you start launching deep into places and people.

Funny enough, you might not have physical proof for what you believe, but you will find yourself doing it (even when you don't understand) and believe that God is the rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. This is where the journey starts.

This is the point where people start to see you as outcast and stupid. It will hurt you because sometimes you have to hear it from the people you love the most. But irrespective,  you are saying (with words or actions), "Although I love you, you can't stop me. There is a higher calling and I must attend to it."

At this point, God will make available resources and people that you must come across and you have to sow seeds, even if they come as friends. They have a special blessing to impact you that will be required for the journey and destination. The kind of seed to sow per time depends on the person. And every seed must have a focus or a reason why you are doing it. Not the one imposed on you, but the one that comes from within you and you know why you are doing it.

The external one could be a confirmation of what you have on the inside, but you must first know yourself why you have to do what you want to do. This is where the Holy Spirit leads and guides the most. To help you make the best decisions and walk you through it.

Then you serve. There are people and places that are pointers to where you have to be sooner or later. When you find yourself anywhere or with anybody let the Holy Spirit help you discern how best to serve and serve with all your heart, not expecting a reward. Service is a seed.

To some you have to sow a financial seed, not to buy something, but to key into a certain aspect of the person's life and quicken your journey to greatness, or even get a gift to enter into an abundance of their grace. But service is much more than any gift or financial seed.

This is where you become a mentee, an assistant, volunteer, intern, or any other name given to people who serve. This is where you learn certain things you would have access to if you were not this close. It could even be taking a course with some people or work in a less qualifying position, just to always have access directly to certain people.

But whichever way it is, you have to serve. It is the hallmark of great people God plants himself. While you are at it, do it with all diligence and grace. Give in your best, the way you want people who work for you or with you should.

Go the extra mile. Do things that are not in your job description. Let the Holy Spirit lead you and guide you into creating more value. Don't think that Joseph (while he was at Potiphar's house) didn't have access to the people in the king's palace. He did, but he didn't work his way through it, he didn't bribe or beg to be known. He served God through his masters (even in the prison). Serve God through people.

Even when you become a boss of your own, serve. You are serving God in and through people. Humans will always be humans, but serve God in people. So that when they fail you, you will know that God's got you and you are focused on where you are going.

Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and muscle and intelligence —and that you love your neighbor as well as you do yourself (Luke 10:27, MSG).

God is the focus, not man, and when you focus on helping people become better, you will also soar higher. The way up is down. The scriptures put it beautifully.

Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you'll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you're content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty (Matthew 23:11-12, MSG).

Shalom!

Wrap Ups

Endings are better than beginnings. Sticking to it is better than standing out ( Ecclesiastes 7:8; MSG). The end justifies the means and starting could be great, but there is nothing as fulfilling and satisfying as the wrapping up of a thing with strength and grace. It is better not to start anything at all than to give up halfway. If we must start a thing, then we must follow through to the end. It builds discipline, consistency, and focus. When a person sets out for a journey, the thing expected on the way can only be assumed but not accurate. Which makes the destination and finishing well a necessity for greatness and forging further. This year has been amazing and some many things were unexpected, but regardless of the emotions experienced, God is good! When we thought it was over and there was no way we will make it, He showed and made a way. The most important thing when we are wrapping up anything is Thanksgiving. It could have only been God. If only we c...

Beyond the natural laws

Laws are laid down principles to help people to walk in certain directions. It is structured, firm, and sometimes rigid. Laws are expected to always follow the same pattern and anyone found doing differently will be accused and penalized. The scribes and Pharisees were always angry at the ways and teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ because he wasn't doing the same as them yet have mind-blowing impacts better than theirs. He taught, people listened and yielded, but they force people to do it their own way (Mark 6:1-3).    They are ignorant that even though we have one big God, He is diverse in his ways and acts. No wonder people find it difficult to believe in the ways and characters of a child of God. It is a life led by the wind of God's Spirit because it's beyond the normal laws they believe in. Natural laws are principles generally accepted by people and passed down from one generation to another. We are Christians. We operate in the supernatural ...

Fear in the Process

There is an African proverb that says, "the demon you've known for a while is better than the angel you just met". As weird as this sounds, many people consciously or unconsciously act it out. This shows the hardness of people's hearts towards change. Change is constant, but it can be a very weird process and experience. The Israelites desired to go back to Egypt and continue the life of slavery and pain that they were used to than to be in the wilderness and uncertain of what the promised land looked like. Yours might not be as dramatic as the Exodus. It could be the Lord telling to you take steps about your finances by saving and sowing. Or leaving the life that is not accurate with the word and plan of God for your life. It could be for you to stop saying to yourself and others, "That's who I am and I can't change." Our change experiences are different. You know what the Lord is addressing in your life. And it may have raised questions of doubt li...
